Dr. Mayer is a national leader in higher education research and in helping colleges and policymakers use evidence to improve student success. He has led several national research studies and is currently the Principal Investigator of the National Rural Higher Education Research Center, funded by the Institute of Education Sciences (IES) in the U.S. Department of Education. He has testified before state higher education committees in California and New Jersey, has been interviewed by PBS NewsHour, and has published in the Hechinger Report and the Community College Daily. Dr. Mayer regularly works with policymakers and higher education leaders on the use of evidence, and he has led the College Completion Strategy Guide, a collaboration among experts across the country to provide evidence-backed guidance for policymakers and system leaders on increasing college completion rates.
