As general counsel, Kob has oversight responsibility for identifying and mitigating legal risks presented by MDRC’s operations and research. She advises the president and senior managers on legal matters, reviews project and corporate initiatives, and counsels research and corporate staff members. Kob is a key legal adviser on major business transactions, compliance and ethics activities, and corporate strategy, as well as serving as principal counsel to the MDRC board of directors. In addition, Kob is responsible for the creation and negotiation of legal agreements involving MDRC’s interests relating to issues such as intellectual property, research, resources, and data. She serves as a member of MDRC’s Institutional Review Board, which assesses and mitigates risk to research subjects. Kob also supervises pro bono legal work performed by law school students and recent graduates. Before joining MDRC, Kob was an associate at Patterson, Belknap, Webb & Tyler, where she practiced law in the Exempt Organizations Department and represented a wide range of private foundations and public charities, including grant-making organizations, social justice groups, and cultural institutions. She graduated from Columbia College, Columbia University and obtained her law degree from Harvard Law School. Kob is a member of the board of directors of Community Impact, the largest community-service organization at Columbia University.
