MDRC Mourns the Passing of William S. White of the Mott Foundation

The Board of Directors and staff of MDRC mourn the recent passing of William S. White, the long-time leader of the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation.

“Bill White was an inspiring philanthropist and a believer in the power of strong communities and the organizations that serve them,” said MDRC President Virginia Knox. “We particularly appreciated his longstanding support of evidence-building in public policy and of MDRC as an organization.”

Under White’s leadership, the Mott Foundation has supported MDRC’s organizational capacity and endowment, as well as many important MDRC projects, including early youth employment efforts like JobStart and New Chance; evaluations of Career Academies, National Guard Youth ChalleNGe program, and the Minnesota Family Investment Program; the Parents’ Fair Share demonstration; and the Opening Doors demonstration, which launched MDRC’s postsecondary education policy area.
