MDRC at American Association of Community Colleges Convention, April 20-23

The American Association of Community Colleges (AACC) is holding its 93th Annual Convention in San Francisco on April 20-23, 2013. Two MDRC researchers are making presentations:

Bridging the Gap: Promising Models for Improving GED and Adult Education Students’ College Readiness and Success
Tuesday, April 23, 8:45-9:45 am
Hilton Golden Gate Ballroom 8 (Tower 3)

  • Vanessa Martin, Senior Associate, MDRC
  • Elizabeth Zachary Rutschow, Research Associate, MDRC

This forum will discuss promising programs and practices for increasing the success of adult basic education (ABE) and GED students, based on findings from rigorous research. The presentation will begin by providing an overarching framework for understanding current reform efforts in the GED and ABE arena before moving on to spotlight findings from MDRC’s current evaluation work on GED reforms. In particular, the presenters will highlight findings from a rigorous study of LaGuardia Community College’s GED Bridge to College and Careers program and a qualitative analysis of new curricular interventions in New York City's District 79 Alternative Schools and Programs, which are aiming to prepare students for the new 2014 GED.

Also, please stop by our booth (#646) in the exhibit hall at the AACC Convention to learn more about MDRC’s research on programs to assist low-income college students, to pick up free copies of our reports, and to enter a raffle for an iPod shuffle!
