Preparing Students for College and Career: A GED Bridge Model in Wisconsin

Although high school completion rates have risen recently, nearly 30 million adults today still lack a high school credential — meaning they face significant barriers to both higher education and employment opportunities. This eleven-minute video features staff members and students from Northeast Wisconsin Technical College (NWTC) describing the college’s promising GED Bridge program, which helps students pass the General Educational Development, or GED, exam and prepares them for college and career. An MDRC evaluation of a similar program at LaGuardia Community College in New York City found the model substantially boosted GED pass rates and college enrollment. Staff from LaGuardia helped NWTC design and implement their program. Findings from MDRC’s evaluation at the Northeast Wisconsin Technical College will be released in 2020.
