Improving the Social-Emotional Competence of Preschoolers: The Head Start CARES Demonstration

The Head Start CARES Demonstration, sponsored by the federal Office of Planning, Research and Evaluation in the Administration for Children and Families, tested three approaches to improving the social-emotional competence of preschoolers. In this six-minute video, researchers Pamela Morris and Shira Kolnik Mattera explain why social-emotional development is important, describe the training and coaching that Head Start teachers received in the demonstration, and explain the significance of the findings from the evaluation.
